CCTA Launches Countywide Smart Signals Project to Modernize Traffic Across Contra Costa

The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) has launched the Countywide Smart Signals project, a $30.8 million initiative to modernize approximately 365 intersections across all 19 cities and unincorporated areas. - Upgrades include signal synchronization, vehicle/pedestrian/bicycle detection, emergency vehicle preemption, transit signal priority, and battery backup systems.

- Initial work begins in Danville and Concord, with countywide expansion to follow. - Funding comes from Measure J, local contributions, and federal/state sources, including over $7 million secured by Congressman Mark DeSaulnier.

The project aims to improve safety, reduce delays, and provide better tools for traffic management during major events and emergencies.
