California Wildfires: Shore Fire Grows to 2,600 Acres, Evacuations Ordered

Wildfires are spreading across California, with the Shore Fire in Riverside County reaching 2,600 acres as of Tuesday, June 16. - The Shore Fire is 25% contained and has closed State Route 60 westbound at I-10.

- Evacuation orders were issued Monday evening; a shelter is set up at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley, and large animals can be taken to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus. - Over 255 personnel, including helicopter and engine crews, are battling the flames.

Crews face challenges due to steep, rocky terrain, according to Cal Fire. - The Mateo Fire at Camp Pendleton covers 650 acres and is 5% contained, burning into the Cleveland National Forest’s Trabuco Ranger District.

The fire originated at the Quebec training area on Monday, June 15, and is burning along difficult terrain in heavy fuels and dense vegetation. The cause is under investigation.

- The Putah Fire in Yolo County is nearly fully contained at 860 acres, started on June 8 as a prescribed burn. - An air quality alert due to particle pollution from wildfire smoke is in effect through Tuesday at 5 p.m.
