Calaveras Shelter Stops Dog Intake Due to Parvo Outbreak

28 April 2026 15:30

Calaveras County Animal Services has stopped accepting new dogs due to a parvovirus outbreak. The virus was detected in dogs impounded from the Railroad Flat area on April 18.

The no-drop-off policy will last 14 to 21 days. Residents finding stray dogs are advised to seek alternatives, such as checking for microchips or posting flyers.

Adoption services remain available by appointment.
