Cal Fire's Mendocino Unit will conduct a prescribed burn along Highway 101 from June 22 to July 9, treating 400 acres of grass within Caltrans right-of-way. - The burn will run from Nelson Ranch Road south of Ukiah to the top of Ridgewood Grade south of Willits.
- Operations will occur Monday through Friday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., under controlled weather and fuel conditions.
- The project aims to reduce roadside vegetation, lower wildfire risk, and provide live fire training for firefighters. - A separate 150-acre prescribed burn is also planned at UC Hopland Research and Extension Center.
Motorists should expect controlled traffic and emergency vehicle presence along Highway 101 during the burn period.
