Cal Fire Opens New Hand Crew Station in La Honda

Cal Fire has established the Glenwood Fire Center in La Honda, a new hand crew station serving Santa Cruz, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. The station, with about 80 personnel, was created in response to the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex fire.

- The hand crew specializes in fuel reduction and fire suppression in rugged terrain. - Annual readiness exercises include a 4-mile hike with 60 pounds of equipment.

- Firefighter Joel Ramos, a former inmate, credits the Pine Grove Youth Conservation Camp for his career. The station enhances wildfire preparedness along the Central Coast.
