Bay Area Shelters Sent Over 1,200 Dogs to Rescue Now Accused of Killing Them

An investigation into Miranda's Rescue in Fortuna has revealed that over 1,200 dogs from Bay Area shelters were sent there over five years, with allegations that the founder killed some and buried them in a mass grave. - Oakland Animal Services sent 827 dogs since 2020, the highest number.

- San Jose, Santa Clara County, Contra Costa County, and other agencies also transferred dogs. - Some shelters paid fees totaling up to $510,000 to the rescue.

- The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is investigating, but no arrests have been made. The case has shaken public shelters across the Bay Area, which have severed ties with the rescue as they await the fate of the animals.
