80-Acre Brush Fire in Sorrento Valley Prompts Evacuations, 15% Contained

A fast-moving brush fire in Sorrento Valley, San Diego County, grew to 80 acres by Monday afternoon, prompting evacuation orders for over 2,200 homes and businesses. The fire is 15% contained.

- The fire broke out around 9:20 a.m. at Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve.

- Evacuation orders were issued for multiple zones; a temporary evacuation point is at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park. - Four helicopters and three fixed-wing aircraft are dropping water and retardant.

- Sorrento Valley Boulevard is closed between Vista Sorrento Parkway and Camino Santa Fe. Officials warn of a drone spotted over the fire area and urge the operator to land it immediately.
