4 Californians Monitored for Andes Hantavirus After Cruise

The California Department of Public Health is monitoring four residents for Andes hantavirus exposure linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship outbreak. - Three were passengers on the ship; one was near an ill passenger on a flight.

- Two are home under local health monitoring; two are in a Nebraska medical facility. - CDPH says public risk is extremely low; the lab has the only validated PCR test in the U.S.

- Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome is rare but severe, with a 30–40% fatality rate. CDPH continues to coordinate with federal and local partners as the situation evolves.
